Starting very young with accordion lessons at age six in 1966 it was apparent that I had musical abilities. In 1972 I joined school band playing alto saxophone and I continued to play in school band switching to tenor sax in grade eleven. I joined my stepfather's country and western band at age thirteen in 1973 when the bass player quit and I soon became a bassist playing by ear.
As the teen years turned into 20’s I played with more and more bands of all styles eventually touring out of Vancouver most of the 80’s when big hair and rock bands were king.
All of this on bass guitar, seldom dabbling in anything else. The 90’s came and went. More bands, more bass and singing a lot more. In 1995 I began to grow musically more than ever before.
The year 2000 saw major changes as I began to play other instruments more and take on leadership. I now front bands playing singing lead and playing tenor sax, bass or lead guitar. I can play drums well enough in a pinch and have recently acquired an accordion so we are back where we started. I host Jam sessions at McKinney's for amateurs and professionals as well as regular band activities. I don’t mind digging in the dirt with the loose musicians. It can be very rewarding when the music goes well.
