2009 marks my 45th year as a professional musician. Starting in bar bands at age 14, I’ve played rock & roll, country, jazz, blues, classical and R&B. I’ve been a cocktail lounge pianist, and a snare drummer in a marching band; I’ve accompanied strippers, comedians, and jugglers, as well as church soloists and jazz vocalists. I’ve toured professionally all over BC in various bands and as a solo artist; and I’ve been privileged to play with many of Canada’s finest musicians, such as Gary Fjellgaard, Roy Forbes, Tim Hearsey, Sam Hurrie, Jack Lavin, Louise Rose, Pat Steward, and David Woodward.
So far, I’ve released 3 CDs: Links below.
A Skinny Old White Man Sings The Blues (1999)
Pure Blues Guy (2001)
Live Plus One(2004)
These are available at cdbaby.com or at iTunes. I’m currently recording a new CD with my band, the bLUES bUSTERS, hope to release it in fall of 2009.
Songwriting is a big part of what I do; I have over 60 songs registered with SOCAN. As well as blues, pop, rock, country and jazz tunes, I also wrote show tunes for three different musical theatre productions. My songs have been performed by many different artists, and have been used in Canadian film. As a songwriter, I value strong melodies and tight, well-structured lyrics; Lennon & McCartney are my songwriting idols.
These days, guitar is my main instrument (I also give guitar lessons at Decibels Music), though I still get a fair number of gigs playing drums or keyboards. I play bass and harmonica too. My musical taste runs to the "rootsy" styles: classic rock, country, jazz and older pop. I especially love all forms of blues.
I’m proud to be the host guitarist for McKinney’s Thursday Night Acoustic Jam. Also, I occasionally host the Friday Night Rock Jam. McKinney’s is a big part of Powell River’s music scene – and a cool place to hang out!
